Tip #1-Updating multiple chart of accounts details

Rules for changing chart of accounts file 

Change any chart of accounts detail in bulk by exporting the chart of accounts file from Xero, modify it following the steps below, then import it back into Xero. However, you'll need to ensure you don't change the Code and Name column together, otherwise Xero will archive your old account and create a new one. 

 1. Change the Code column separately from the Name column 

Follow these steps to change the Code details separately from the Name details in your chart of accounts file: 

• Export the chart of accounts file from Xero 
• Update the exported file by only changing details in the Code column 
• You can change other columns at this point, except the Name column 
• Save the file. 
• Import the file back into Xero 
• The changed and imported codes display in Xero 

 2. Change the Name column separately from the Code column 

Follow these steps to change the Name details separately from the Code details in your chart of accounts file: 

• Export the chart of accounts file from Xero 
• Update the exported file by only changing details in the Name column 
• Save the file. 
• Import the file back into Xero 
• The changed and imported names display in Xero
